Community Literacy and Numeracy (CLAN)

Welcome to the CLAN website. CLAN was initially set up by West Dunbartonshire Council in  response to a report published by the Scottish Executive on adult literacies.   The CLAN staff team is employed by the Council to work in partnership with a number of organisations in West Dunbartonshire.

We  offer  support to people wanting to brush up on reading, writing or working with numbers. CLAN is an SQA approved centre which means we can offer learners the chance to gain nationally recognized qualifications in Communications, Numeracy and Information Technology.

For more information have a look through our website, phone us on 0141 951 4952 or email us at clan@west-dunbarton.gov.uk

What do our learners think?

"I have been working on my writing and my spelling and have written letters to my son and my brother, which is something I would have had to get my husband to do for me.  It feels great that I can sit down and write a letter by myself"

(Learner, Dedicated Group)

"How amazing is it to send your first email and get a reply!"

(Learner, Surfing the Net and Sending Emails Course)

"Panic, I had no idea where to start.  After a lot of thought I made the decision to sign up for classes, attended a small interview and went along to the first class.  I was very nervous to start with but everyone was nice and helpful and they made me feel very welcome."
