Meet the CLAN Team

We've given a brief outline below on the CLAN development team and the CL&D community literacies team and their different roles. To contact a member of the team call CLAN on Tel: 01389 733 879  or email clan@west-dunbarton.gov.uk

Ross - Acting Team Leader Community Literacies

My job involves supporting all the staff working for the CLAN Team, whilst developing new areas of work like the idea of having a Literacies Friendly Community. Often I work behind the scenes on exciting things like budgets and operational plans, but these while sounding boring are important to make sure that CLAN runs smoothly. CLAN has grown over the last few years but we've continued to ensure that we focus on the needs of individual learners and their progress. I enjoy all the different parts of the job I'm involved in, but the most rewarding is working face to face with learners.

Angela - Youth Literacies Development Worker

I also work with young people aged 16 - 25. I develop literacies resources to help young people progress their career and employment needs, as well as their general literacies needs.

Angela - Marketing and Research Officer

My job involves lots of different areas including advertising CLAN, producing publicity material and carrying out research.

Christine - Adult Literacies Development Worker

My position within CLAN is Adult Literacies Induction and Guidance Development Worker. My role is to induct new learners and assist them to progress in their learning.

Alan - Adult Literacies Development Worker

My current role involves creating and delivering short courses as well as the provision of Core Skills. I thoroughly enjoy creating and delivering a wide range of material on a one to one and group basis within the community and the workplace.

Catherine - Adult Literacies Development Worker

My role involves developing provision for people with additional learning support needs and my creativity stems from previously working with ESOL learners.

Clare - Community Literacies Worker

I meet with new learners, tell them about learning opportunities with CLAN and support them into literacy and numeracy groups throughout Clydebank. I also co-ordinate ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) groups across West Dunbartonshire. I'm involved in designing and delivering training for volunteer tutors and staff and I really enjoy this part of my job.

Kimberley - Community Literacies Worker

I help adults that are interested in improving their literacy skills in the area of Dumbarton and Whitecrook by meeting with them to discuss how they can become more confident in their everyday literacy activities and become part of a literacy group. Adults who attend a literacy group are given regular support and assistance throughout their learning and are given the opportunity to learn in an informal way at their own pace. It's great to see the progress that people make and the enjoyment they get from it.

Angela - Community Literacies Worker

I meet with new learners, tell them about learning opportunities with CLAN and support them into literacy and numeracy groups throughout the Clydebank area. I am also involved in developing learning opportunities for families in the Whitecrook area, usually through the local primary schools. I also deliver STEPS to Excellence courses in the community which is a course for adults who want to build confidence and positive self-belief. I enjoy being part of the literacies provision because you see individuals grow and develop and gain confidence in their own abilities.

Janet - Community Literacies Worker

Alexandria and Bonhill are the areas where I organise adult literacies provision. Currently, there are two groups in Alexandria and one in Bonhill. I meet with learners for their initial interview and meet them again to complete their Individual Learning Plan. I would then introduce them to the group tutor and the volunteer tutors responsible for the session they have chosen to attend. There are three areas of special interest that I am involved with: mental health, addictions and literacies with offenders and ex-offenders. I get great satisfaction when I see learners doing well, making progress and achieving their personal goals, especially when it makes an impact on their day-to-day lives.
